You don’t have a
$3m comms budget.
You do need to sleep.

Sensible advice.

Real results fast.

No nasty surprises.

Just the actual.

Social media, website, newsletter...

Do your communications feel waaay harder than they should?

I can help when:

  • you're not sure what’s worth doing

  • you know exactly what needs doing, but don't have the senior capacity to do it

  • something big has landed and you need experienced help now to get it right.

You probably don’t need more activity.
You need the right kind of help for the challenge you're facing.

Communications strategy for the real world

The Actual works with the time, money and people you really have.

I won’t lock you into services you don’t want, sell you stuff you don’t need or charge you to tell you things you already know.

My job is to work out what would actually help – and do that.

There are plenty of ways that might look. Here are three.

THE SKINNY

A COMMUNICATIONS RESET

Working out what matters – and what doesn’t

Weak web traffic? Struggling socials? Budget blowout?

Before you spend more – or cut the wrong thing – we find out:

  • what's working

  • what's missing

  • what you can ditch

  • what you can tweak.

Then I make your communications work harder – so you don't have to.

Better results, less effort.

Best when: you need to work out what needs fixing.

We start with a conversation.

  • What’s happening for you?

  • If you could wave a wand, what would things look like?

  • What makes you want to tear your hair out?

  • What do we have to work with?

Then I get into the mess.

Depending on the job, I might:

  • talk to your people

  • look at your strategy, audiences, channels, workload, systems, results and spend

  • check out what’s happening on the ground.

Then I give it to you straight with a realistic 90-day action plan that you can start right away.

You'll know:

  • what to stop, start, continue and change

  • where you can save money and where to invest

  • the actions that matter most – in order

  • who needs to do what

  • what your team can realistically take on and where outside help is worth it.

We finish with a working session so the people who need to act understand the recommendations, and everyone knows what to do on Monday.

SENIOR COMMS SUPPORT ON TAP

Adding experienced communications capacity without another full-time hire

Sick of juggling, rushing and always playing comms catch‑up?

You can’t justify a full-time comms lead but you need to focus on your core business – not be scrambling to invent a desperate post at 4.47 pm on Friday.

I get to know your business – without being on your books.

You get:

  • regular, proactive communications

  • clear priorities

  • sound decisions

  • better results.

It all fits your business – and frees you up to kick off your weekend.

Best when: you know what needs doing but need support to keep it moving.

We talk. Properly. About what needs to happen.

Then we do a one-off setup, so I understand the people, the priorities and what’s already in motion.

We agree the rhythm – how much senior comms time you need and how often you need it. If you don’t know yet, that’s okay – we can try something and change it if it’s not right.

I can shape the plan, make the call, write the difficult words, fix the thing that isn’t landing, brief the agency, get the campaign moving or turn the half-formed idea into something fabulous.

  • The board needs a stakeholder update.

  • Your team needs a member survey interpreted and turned into something people will read.

  • You need a policy position put into plain English.

  • You need a video scripted.

  • You need a campaign plan...

Because I’m close to the work, I’ll spot things too, and say so:

  • an opportunity you’re missing

  • a risk building

  • a ripper story sitting under your nose

  • a smarter way to do something.

You don’t have to find, brief and manage someone new every time. I already know what’s going on.

FOCUSED STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS

When you're tackling one important, complicated thing

New funding? A new CEO? A major launch, strategy or crisis?

You need it sorted now. Not in three weeks once you've found and briefed someone – and not forever.

I can step in, work out what you need and stay with you until it's done  – and no longer.

You get the job done properly, without the headache of more permanent staff.

Best when: a chunk of work needs concentrated senior attention now.

First, I listen.

We agree what the job is, what I need to get underway and where the finish line is.

I get across the context, work out who needs to be involved and what needs deciding.

I take responsibility for the communications work that will get your project over the line.

Depending on the job, that might mean strategy, messaging, writing, stakeholder communications, briefing and coordinating other specialists, managing approvals, issues management – or all of that.

I can lead the whole thing or work alongside your team.

We agree the scope, timeframe and price upfront. If things shift, we talk about it before making changes.

No long-term lock-in, no manufactured dependency.

When the work is done, I hand over what you need – and you write me a glowing testimonial.

About

Hi, I'm Jennifer!

I’m a senior communications strategist, creator and professional untangler of messy things.

I’ve led communications for businesses, government, the private sector, advocacy and community organisations, researchers and industry bodies. I’m happiest in the bit where things are complicated, the answer isn’t obvious and everyone has a slightly different version of the situation.

I ask useful questions, get across unfamiliar subjects quickly, look at the evidence, notice what’s odd and turn it all into clear decisions and practical action.

I care about solving your actual problem – not some communications-shaped upsell.
